- Participants consent for providers to see their NDIS plan.
- Being recorded as a my provider doesn't mean automatically having consent to see NDIS plans.
- Different providers will see different information about participants.
The rules and the way we manage consent and share participant information does not change with the introduction of our new computer system.
Participants who are 18 years and older can provide consent for the NDIA to collect and share information about them with another person or organisation, like a provider.
Participants can provide their consent by using an NDIS consent form, or telling us at any time by phone, in person, or in writing. We will check with the participant to ensure they:
- have the right information to help them understand consent
- are providing their consent by choice
- decide how long they want their consent to last
- confirm what their consent gives people permission to do.
Providers need to nominate specific staff from their organisation to have a role as the ‘person with consent’. Only those staff can act on behalf of a participant.
When you work with a participant you can let them know the contact name of the ‘person with consent’ at your organisation for the participant to provide consent to.
Giving consent for providers to view a participant’s plan is different to the consent participants give to others, like nominees, to support them to make decisions.
To learn more about consent, providers can read Our Guideline - Your privacy and information.
Providers and participant consent to view NDIS plans
Even if providers are recorded as a my provider, we will confirm consent for them to see the plan. We usually do this when meeting with participants to approve their new NDIS plan, or at their plan implementation meeting.
We record participant consent in our new computer system, every time they give a new or different consent.
We also record what information participants have consented to be shared with third parties, like providers, what information we have shared, and who we’ve shared it with.
When a participant gives consent, providers can use the my NDIS provider portal to view the parts of the participant’s plan that are relevant to them. The information and notifications providers receive from the my NDIS provider portal is based on their role and the consent provided by their participant.

Learn about consent and viewing plans with the provider learning environment
The learning environment has walk-through tutorials that are easy to follow and use a step-by-step approach. The tutorials are tailored for each type of provider.
There are two ways providers can access the learning environment. Providers can use their web browser to access the provider learning environment, or the myplace provider portal.
