Funding is the money from your plan that pays for the supports you need. We will tell you:

  • what supports we give you funding for
  • how much funding we give you.

This page explains how to understand your funding

About your budget

Your budget is how we split the funding in your NDIS plan.

It explains the type of supports you can use your plan for

Your NDIS plan is a document that has information about:

  • you and your goals
  • the supports you need
  • the funding the NDIS will give you.

Managing your budget

Your budget shows how much funding is in your plan each year.

You will have the same amount of funding every year of your plan.

Your plan can last between 1 and 3 years.

You can find out more on our page about Managing your plan.

At your plan meeting we will talk to you about the best way to manage your budget.

You will also have a check-in every year.

Your check-in is when we talk with you about how your supports are going.

You can find out more on our page about Your check-in.

How your NDIS plan will look

We are using our new computer system to create plans.

This means some parts of your new plan might look different to before.

For example, your new budget will show what funding you get for each support category.

Your budget will still have some ‘stated supports’.

You cannot use this funding for other supports.

Other parts of your budget will be more flexible.

This means you can choose different supports from the category your funding is for.

New types of support

We can give some people funding for recurring supports.

Recurring supports are funding we pay into your bank account.

We pay you this funding every 2 weeks.

We might give you funding in 6 new support categories.

The new categories are all stated supports.

We explain them below.

You can find out more on our page about Support categories.

Home and living

Home and living is a new core support.

Core supports are the supports and services you need and use the most.

Behaviour support

Behaviour support is a new capacity building support.

Capacity building supports are the supports and services that help you build skills to:

  • do things for yourself
  • work towards your goals

If you have behaviour supports in your budget, you need to tell us who your provider will be. Providers support people who take part in the NDIS by delivering a service.

We will include your provider in your plan.

Assistive technology repairs and rental

Assistive technology might be an aid or piece of equipment. It can:

  • make it easier to do things
  • keep you safe

Assistive technology repairs and rental is a new capital support.

Capital supports are supports and services:

  • that can cost a lot of money
  • you might only need to buy once
  • that make sure your home works well for you.

Specialist disability accommodation

Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) is housing for people with disability who need a lot of support.

SDA is a new capital support.

If you have SDA in your budget, you need to tell us who your provider will be.

We will include your provider in your plan.

Transport recurring

Transport recurring is a new recurring support.

If you have this support, we will give you funding every 2 weeks.

You can use this funding to pay for transport.

This can include buses, trains or taxis.

This support starts on the day we approve your new plan.

When we approve your plan, we agree to everything in it.

This means the day of the week you get your funding might change.

Young people in residential aged care

Residential aged care is where older Australians live when they cannot live in their home anymore.

Young people in residential aged care is a new core support.
