There are 3 ways you can manage your plan.

You might use one of these ways.

Or you might use more than one.

How you can manage your plan

Your NDIS plan is a document that has information about:

  • you and your goals
  • the supports you need
  • the funding the NDIS will give you.

Funding is the money from your plan that pays for the supports you need.

You can manage your own funding in your plan.

We call this a ‘self-managed’ plan.

You can get a plan manager.

A plan manager is someone who can manage your funding for you.

The NDIA can manage the funding in your plan.

We call this ‘Agency-managed’.

Your NDIA planner will help you choose the best way to manage your plan.

An NDIA planner is someone who:

  • works for the NDIA
  • makes new plans
  • changes plans
  • develops your plan budgets.

Your budget is how we split the funding in your plan.

You can still control your plan when someone else manages it for you.
You can also check your:

  • funding
  • budgets.

Our new computer system

We have a new computer system.

It will give participants a better experience.

Participants are people with disability who take part in the NDIS.

The new computer system does not change the rules about how:

  • you manage your plan
  • someone else manages your plan.

Next time you get a new plan, it will be in our new computer system.

If you are already a participant, you can keep managing your plan the same way you do now.

The my NDIS participant portal and app

If your plan is in our new computer system, you will use:

  • the my NDIS participant portal
  • the my NDIS app.

You can use the my NDIS portal and app to:

  • see your plan
  • use your funding for the supports you self-manage.

You can find out more on our page about the my NDIS participant portal and app.

You can still use the myplace participant portal until your plan goes into the new computer system.

You can also use it to check your old plans.

You can find out more on our page about How to use the myplace portal.

You can self-manage your plan

When you self-manage your plan, you:

  • manage all or part of your funding
  • choose what supports you use to reach your goals.

If you want to start self-managing your plan, you can talk to your my NDIS contact.

Your my NDIS contact is a support person who helps you with your plan and the things you do with the NDIA.

For example, it could be a local area coordinator.

A local area coordinator is someone who helps people with disability find and use supports.

You will use the my NDIS portal and app to use your funding.

The way you use your funding will not change.

You will need to provide the same information.

For example:

  • the date you used a service
  • how much it cost
  • what support category you are using
  • who the provider is.

Providers support people who take part in the NDIS by delivering a service.

It will still take 1 or 2 days for your providers to get your funding.

You can use a plan manager

A plan manager is a provider who supports you to manage your funding.
They can support you to:

  • build your skills with money
  • pay your other providers.

Your NDIA planner will help you decide if you need funding for a plan manager.

You can then choose the plan manager you want.

If you already have a plan manager, you can tell us at your plan meeting.

We will include them in your plan.

We can help you find a new plan manager.

You can talk to:

  • a local area coordinator
  • a support coordinator.

A support coordinator is someone who helps you plan and use your supports.

You can also use the provider finder on the NDIS website.

You need to tell us if you want to change your plan manager.
You can:

  • tell us at one of your meetings
  • tell your my NDIS contact
  • tell a local area coordinator.

You can also call us.

Your plan manager needs your consent to look at parts of your plan.

When you give your consent, you say it is ok for someone to do something.

You can tell us in your meeting if you want to give consent to your providers.

And you can change your consent whenever you want to.

You can have an Agency-managed plan

The NDIA can manage:

  • all of the funding in your plan
  • part of the funding in your plan.

When you have an Agency-managed plan, you can only use registered providers.

Registered providers:

  • are on an official list
  • have to follow strict rules.

You can choose which registered providers you use.

You can see your plan on the my NDIS portal and app.

Our new computer system makes it easier to pay for some Agency-managed supports.

This includes:

  • specialist disability accommodation (SDA)

SDA is housing for people with disability who need a lot of support

  • behaviour supports

Behaviour supports are ways to support how a participant acts or behaves.

If these supports are in your plan, you need to tell us who your providers will be.

We will include these providers in your plan.
