Key points
  • Participants consent for providers to see their NDIS plan.
  • Being recorded as a my provider doesn't mean automatically having consent to see NDIS plans.
  • Different providers will see different information about participants.

The rules and the way we manage consent and share participant information does not change with the introduction of our new computer system.

Even if providers are recorded as a my provider, we will confirm consent for them to see the plan. We usually do this when meeting with participants to approve their new NDIS plan, or at their plan implementation meeting.

We record participant consent in our new computer system, every time they give a new or different consent.

We also record what information participants have consented to be shared with third parties, like providers, what information we have shared, and who we’ve shared it with.

When a provider is recorded as a my provider and a participant gives consent, providers can use the my NDIS provider portal to view the parts of the participant’s plan that are relevant to them. All provider staff with my NDIS provider portal access can view participant information as consent is listed at the organisation level. The information and notifications providers receive from the my NDIS provider portal is based on their role and the consent provided by their participant.

Learn about consent and viewing plan information in the my NDIS provider portal

The learning environment has walk-through tutorials that are easy to follow and use a step-by-step approach. The tutorials are tailored for each type of provider.

There are two ways providers can access the learning environment. Providers can use their web browser to access the provider learning environment, or the myplace provider portal.

Participants can provide their consent by using an NDIS consent formexternal website, or telling us at any time by phone, in person, or in writing.

The information providers will see automatically and with consent in the my NDIS provider portal is different to consent participants can give to an organisation, which includes:

  • share information about,
  • change participant information, and/or
  • act on behalf of a participant.

Nominating provider staff as a ‘person with consent’

Where a participant provides consent, a provider can nominate up to two staff members from their organisation to have a role as the ‘person with consent’. Only those nominated staff can contact the Agency on behalf of a participant and in line with the level of consent the participants has authorised.

When you work with a participant you can let them know the contact names of the ‘person with consent’ at your organisation
